Introduction
The Ryder is Sunday Golf’s best do-it-all golf bag. It has a stand (legs), it has plenty of storage, but it’s not too heavy to carry. This is why Sunday Golf has given the original Ryder [review HERE], the premium treatment to stay on trend with the Ryder S-Class [review HERE].
In this review, I’m taking a close look at the the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder, the third bag in the Ryder family. As you can guess from the name, this bag’s bailiwick is handling the elements. I tested that and everything else about it to see if it should be your next club hauler.
Looks
The Sunday Golf Storm Ryder comes in any color you want, as long as you want black. And this bag takes black seriously, featuring virtually no contrasting colors. Three small pieces of Sunday Golf branding are done in grey, and there’s a white snowflake on the Frosty Pocket, but that’s it.
This is an all-business golf bag, and that’s probably just fine for the target golfer. If you’re out there in the rain and hail, you don’t want to worry about getting mud on your hot pink golf bag. Save that one for the sunny days.
One final aesthetic note: the “weatherproof material” that Sunday Golf uses for this bag gives it a sharp, durable look. It doesn’t look like the faux leather bags that are so prevalent now, and it’s clearly not the thin nylon of most stand bags. The Storm Ryder has a unique, high quality appearance that I appreciate more as I spend more time with it.
Features
When you have a winning formula, it’s a good idea not to mess with it. With this in mind, the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder has the same pocket layout as the other Ryder bags. That’s a total of nine pockets including a Frosty Pocket and ball pocket on the back. The ball pocket swallowed three dozen balls without any strain on the zipper.
In keeping with the Storm Ryder’s theme, two pockets on the right side – the valuables pocket and the apparel pocket – are waterproof. My favorite pocket is near the bottom of the bag – a small zippered compartment with three sections for organizing small items like ball markers.
Beyond storage, the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder checks all the other boxes for key features. It has a glove holder and two loops for holding towels or clipping on accessory cases. There’s an umbrella holder tucked behind the apparel pocket. A cart strap pass through keeps your pockets accessible when riding. Finally, on my aforementioned favorite pocket, Sunday Golf has placed 14 elastic tee holders. When you’re out of tees, the round is over.
Performance
Starting at the top, the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder has a 5-way top with each section getting a full-length divider. The top is 10″ X 7″, just like the other Ryder bags, and is capable of holding 14 clubs. I was able to put in 14 clubs with midsized grips and had no issue.
One area where the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder does stand apart from the other Ryders is weight. The waterproofing adds a bit if heft, making this bag tip the scales at 5.3 pounds compared to 4.9 for the standard Ryder or Ryder S-Class. It’s not a huge difference, but it’s worth noting for the dedicated walker.
On the topic of carrying, the Storm Ryder has self-balancing double straps that are very well padded. You can easily adjust the straps while the bag is on your back, and it transitions seamlessly from double shoulder carry to single. Also worthy of a shoutout are the excellent clips that Sunday Golf used for the straps. If you’re going to be riding exclusively for a while, you can take the straps off in seconds and reattach them when they’re needed. Thanks to handles on the spine, top, and bottom of the bag, it’s easy to get the Storm Ryder in and out of your car.
A performance element that I’m going to put a heavier focus on going forward is the legs or stand. The Sunday Golf Storm Ryder is the first to receive a grade for leg action, and it’s getting a very respectable B. Just like when I was a teacher, there will be no grade inflation here. If the legs don’t spring in and out in a way that’s borderline dangerous, you will not get an A.
Sunday Golf gave the Storm Ryder a hinged base that has several benefits. First, it’s more durable than traditional kickstands. It also makes operating the stand easier. Third, the flat bottom is better for putting on a cart. We’re slowly seeing the kickstand fade into the past, and I’m very happy for it.
Finally, we get to the waterproofing. I gave both waterproof pockets my best test – putting paper towels inside them then spraying the outside with water – and they passed with flying colors. Water beads off the exterior of the bag, allowing it to live up to its name. And, as you would expect, the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder comes with a rain hood that snaps onto the bag.
Conclusion
I’ve reviewed a lot of golf bags in 2025, but the Sunday Golf Storm Ryder is the first one that’s likely to take a spot in my gamer rotation. I love the size and versatility, and the durable, waterproof materials will keep it looking sharp for several seasons. If you’re considering a Sunday Golf bag, know that each bag comes with a 30 day “redo” return policy and a lifetime warranty – two things few other bag makers offer.
