The PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo putter is a very stable, forgiving mallet with unparalleled fitting options. All black look makes a busy shape look clean.
Introduction
With apologies to one of my favorite clubs of the year, the Secret Weapon [review HERE], PXG’s long game has been quiet in 2025 (so far). However, the brand has been making major moves on the green. They followed up the launch of their first zero torque putter, the Allan [review HERE], with two more models – the Bat Attack ZT [review HERE] and the Hellcat ZT [review HERE]. Their latest release, the PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo, is a more traditional style and gives golfers a huge menu of fitting options so they can optimize this high stability mallet for their game.
Looks
While PXG is well known for their love of black, the monochromatic look of the Torpedo sets it apart in the Battle Ready II family. Where the Apache, Blackjack [review HERE], and others have a mix of silver and black, the PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo is murdered out – nothing but black from the hosel to the face to the branding. The lack of color and long, single sight line take the normally busy Spider-style and make it look more compact and focused at address.
The branding and ornamentation do nothing to take away from the all-business vibe of the Torpedo. PXG’s trademark skull appears on the sole and the edge of the face. The sole has large PXG branding above the “Torpedo” engraving, but the look is cohesive and clean.
Sound & Feel
PXG’s Battle Ready II putters are some of the most technologically advanced, but they maintain a traditional impact experience. The Pyramid Face Pattern, stainless steel body, and S COR polymer core combine to create a muted “tock” at impact, when using a premium golf ball. It’s a quiet, mid-low pitched sound that meshes well with the putter’s stealthy look.
The feel of the PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo is solid and medium-soft. Nothing in the impact sensation would let you know that the face is less than a tenth of an inch thick. There’s a slight bounce to perfect strikes, but otherwise the character of impact is unchanged across the face. Despite the Torpedo’s high MOI, it delivers good feedback through the hands.
Performance
This is a head shape known for stability and forgiveness. When that’s combined with PXG’s proprietary S COR Technology, the result is a putter that’s incredibly consistent. In my testing, the PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo shrugged off mishits and got every putt to the hole. At close range, I could use the entire face and still put the ball in the bottom of the cup.
S COR Technology was also helpful for me when it came to distance control. Of course making the putter more stable is good for distance control, but I noted something else. Because this putter’s MOI comes from the lightweight core rather than sheer size, I was able to swing it more naturally. Supersized putters may be stable, but I find that swinging them feels like trying to putt with an anvil. Relative to other modern mallets, the Torpedo feels nimble which helped me to dial in my long putts.
Beyond the forgiveness, one of the biggest reasons to recommend the Battle Ready II putters is the array of fitting options. That starts with a choice of necks to help these putters fit any stroke type. PXG offers the Torpedo in heel shafted, plumbers neck (seen here), double bend, and armlock. Those four options run the gamut from substantial toe hang for heavily arcing strokes to face balanced for straighter putter motions. As a player with a moderately arcing path, I love that PXG makes high stability putters like the Torpedo and Apache [review HERE] playable for me through their neck options.
After fitting the right neck and dialing in the right length, loft, and lie angle, PXG lets players choose their preferred swing weight through their Precision Weighting Technology. The PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo has two weight ports at the far edges of the head where players can use weights ranging from 2.5 grams to 20 grams. With this much flexibility, players can get their preferred feel regardless of the neck and length they need. Finally, PXG has the lefties covered – the Torpedo is available for RH and LH players.
Conclusion
While “putter” may still not be the first word that comes to your mind when you think of PXG, the 2025 product line is pushing it closer to the top. The PXG Battle Ready II Torpedo is the latest in a series of great flat sticks from the company, each of which has given golfers unique, technology-driven options on the green.
