2023 RBC Heritage fantasy golf picks, rankings, sleepers, advice: Back Patrick Cantlay, avoid Jon Rahm

A tough test at Harbour Town Golf Links, and a field of PGA Tour players making rare appearances there, should make for a fascinating week at the 2023 RBC Heritage. The post-Masters event, which tees off Thursday in Hilton Head Island, S.C., typically sees a weaker field following the major championship. But the PGA Tour has elevated it to a designated event, meaning Masters champion Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and most of the world’s top 50 golfers will be teeing off this week. Players making 2023 RBC Heritage fantasy picks will have to decide how much motivation and lack of experience on the course should influence their decisions.

Scheffler is making his debut in Hilton Head but comes in as the 8-1 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s 2023 RBC Heritage odds. Rahm is making his second appearance but is right behind at 17-2. Would players setting 2023 RBC Heritage fantasy lineups be better off taking players who have had success at Harbour Town? Jordan Spieth (18-1) won last year in a playoff over Patrick Cantlay (14-1), and both should be popular RBC Heritage 2023fFantasy picks this week. Before setting your fantasy golf rankings or making any 2023 RBC Heritage picks, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.

Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. Holliman has been on a roll since last season. He nailed last week’s Masters, backing Rahm as his top choice, despite his uninspired run at Match Play. “The Spaniard wants a green jacket badly. Who doesn’t?,” Holliman said. “But Rahm will get it at some point, and I expect it to be this year.” The Spaniard showed how much he wanted it, storming to a four-shot victory and his second major title.

At the Players Championship, he was all over Scheffler to win at 10-1, and at Bay Hill, 11 of his picks finished in the top 15 and three of his top seven posted top-five finishes. The golf expert also was behind Chris Kirk at the Honda, backing the 25-1 shot to get his first victory since 2015. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.

Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 RBC Heritage field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and RBC Heritage picks at SportsLine.

One golfer Holliman will be backing this week is Cantlay, who will be looking to make another strong run at Harbour Town. Last year’s runner-up finish was his fourth top-10 in five tries in Hilton Head, and the 31-year-old is due for a victory. The 2021 FedEx Cup champion had six wins over the past two seasons and has finished in the top 20 in five straight events. That includes his T-14 at Augusta last week, which was derailed by his final round 75. Still, Cantlay is second in total driving and fourth in greens in regulation, a combination that plays well on this course.

On the other hand, Holliman has made the stunning decision to fade Rahm despite the Spaniard’s dominance. The 28-year-old won the Masters by four strokes, but he put a lot of effort – mentally and physically – into winning his second major title. Holliman thinks it’s “only natural” for him to let up a little, so Rahm doesn’t get near the expert’s top five. Elite golfers typically skipped this event, but that wasn’t really an option here. Rahm has the all-around skill set to win, but he might be elsewhere mentally, so Holliman will look elsewhere for his picks. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.

How to set your 2023 RBC Heritage golf rankings

For the RBC Heritage 2023, Holliman is backing several longshots, and his top choice would bring a significant double-digit payday. This golfer has been a mainstay near the top of leaderboards all season and is due for a victory. You can find out who it is, and check out all of Holliman’s PGA picks, only at SportsLine.
