The 2022 Bermuda Championship is the fourth edition of the tournament, and the first three prove that it’s anyone’s championship to win. The event tees off Thursday at Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda. Lucas Herbert won his first PGA Tour title last year at Port Royal, and the first two winners broke long PGA Tour victory droughts. Brendon Todd’s victory in the inaugural Bermuda Championship was his first in more than five years, and Brian Gay snapped a skid of more than seven years in 2020. Herbert won’t be back to defend his title, but 2021 winners like Seamus Power, Garrick Higgo and Chad Ramey are in the 2022 Bermuda Championship field. They will be joined by some notable golfers playing on sponsor exemptions, including two-time major champion John Daly and DP World Tour winner Adrian Meronk.
Denny McCarthy is the 18-1 favorite in the latest 2022 Bermuda Championship odds. Patrick Rodgers (22-1), who finished fourth last year, and Mark Hubbard (22-1) are the co-second favorites. A group at 25-1 includes Power, Meronk, Aaron Rai, Thomas Detry and Alex Smalley. Higgo is listed at 55-1, Ramey is 125-1 and Daly is a massive 1000-1 longshot in the Bermuda Championship 2022 field. Before you lock in any 2022 Bermuda Championship picks or predictions, you need to check out the PGA Tour best bets and sleepers from SportsLine golf insider Patrick McDonald.
After spending time at FanSided and NBC Sports EDGE, McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in the spring of 2022. Now covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis on the PGA Tour.
He takes a measured approach to his outright picks and finished the 2021-22 season up 42 units on those plays, having hit Cameron Smith (22-1) at the Tournament of Champions, Hudson Swafford (250-1) at The American Express, Joaquin Niemann (70-1) at the Genesis Invitational and Justin Thomas (66-1) live at the PGA Championship.
At this year’s Zozo Championship, McDonald nailed a first-round leader, backing 80-1 Brendan Steele before he closed with four birdies to lead by one stroke after Thursday’s round. The expert also hit two of his three matchup plays there, including tournament winner Keegan Bradley over Corey Conners, one of the pre-tournament favorites. Then last week at the CJ Cup, McDonald was all over defending champion Rory McIlroy, who would go on to win the tournament and defend his title. Anyone who followed McDonald’s golf betting advice has cashed in huge.
Now, McDonald has studied the 2022 Bermuda Championship field and is locking in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can head to SportsLine now to see all his PGA picks and predictions.
Top 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship expert picks
McDonald doesn’t like the value on the favorite this week, so he is fading McCarthy, who hasn’t been in top form yet. The 29-year-old reid for seventh in the U.S. Open this summer during a run of three top-10 finishes in four outings. The last of those was the John Deere, and he has three missed cuts and one top-20 finish in seven tournaments since then. McCarthy just hasn’t had the same touch, and he has never won a PGA Tour event. Of course, this is a good opportunity to change that, but in a wide-open field like this, McDonald is looking elsewhere.
On the other hand, the golf insider has seen some good things from Callum Tarren and expects to see more this week. The Englishman tied for 13th at the Sanderson Farms but has missed the cut in his two other tournaments this fall. Still, he is among the top 20 golfers in this field in three key strokes gained categories – off the tee, on approach and putting. He also is third in this group in par-4 scoring average (3.89) and averages 310 yards off the tee. That power will help him cut through any wind, and his well-rounded game should play well at Port Royal. See who else to pick here.
