Jon Rahm became the fourth Spaniard to win the Masters with his victory at Augusta National Golf Club in 2023. McIlroy can complete his career grand slam with a victory at Augusta, and he’s been close on numerous occasions. He’s finished in the top 10 in seven of his last 10 starts at the Masters, which includes a runner-up showing in 2022.
However, the pressure of winning the career slam seems to be getting the best of the 34-year-old. McIlroy has missed the cut in two of his last three starts at Augusta. He shot a 77 in the second round at the Masters last year, and he hasn’t even sniffed the winner’s circle this season, finishing 19th or worse in all five of his starts on the PGA Tour. “I have no interest in betting Rory at any number +1000 or shorter and that certainly includes the Masters,” Nejad told SportsLine.
Instead, Nejad is high on the chances of Hideki Matsuyama, even though he’s a +2800 longshot. Matsuyama won the Masters in 2021, and he’s been playing well early in the 2024 season.
The 32-year-old secured his ninth PGA Tour victory at the Genesis Invitational in February.
