2023 Wells Fargo Championship odds, picks, predictions, field: Proven golf insider fading Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau and Max Homa headline the PGA Tour field for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship, which tees off Thursday in Charlotte, N.C. McIlroy missed a second designated PGA Tour event at the RBC Heritage, and world No. 1 Jon Rahm and second-ranked Scottie Scheffler are the big names missing this time. But there is plenty of talent in the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship field. McIlroy has won the tournament at Quail Hollow three times, Finau comes in off his victory over Rahm at the Mexico Open, and Homa is the defending tournament champion. Last year’s Wells Fargo Championship was played at TPC Potomac as Quail Hollow hosted the Presidents Cup, but it is back at its familiar home this year.

McIlroy is the 15-2 favorite in Caesars Sportsbook’s latest 2023 Wells Fargo Championship odds, and four other golfers are shorter than 20-1. Patrick Cantlay is second in the odds at 14-1, followed by Xander Schauffele (16-1), Finau (17-1) and Jordan Spieth (19-1) in the Wells Fargo Championship 2023 field, while Homa is priced at 24-1. Before making any 2023 Wells Fargo Championship picks, be sure you check out the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from SportsLine golf insider Sia Nejad.

Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He’s had incredible success in the outright and first-round leader markets and betting head-to-head matchups. In 2022, he hit six first-round leaders in a 12-week span while peppering in tournament outrights throughout the year. In 2023, Sportsline debuted “The Early Wedge,” and in the first three months of the show, he hit two FRLs and three outright winners.

Nejad also had a winning head-to-head record in eight of 10 weeks (including full tournament sweeps on head-to-head plays). He was up more than 70 units over that three-month span. Anyone following him saw some huge returns.

Now, Nejad has studied the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can head to SportsLine now to see all of Nejad’s PGA picks and analysis.

Top 2023 Wells Fargo Championship expert picks

One surprise: Nejad is fading McIlroy, even though he has finished in the top 10 nine of his 11 appearances in this event. He won the most recent edition at Quail Hollow in 2021 and also lifted the trophy in 2015 and 2010. The 2010 victory was the Northern Irishman’s first on the PGA Tour, and he now has 23. McIlroy comes off a missed cut at the Masters, and while Nejad expects the time off to do the 33-year-old some good, he says the price is too high. “At this point in the season, I’m not even sure he’s a deserving favorite over Patrick Cantlay,” the expert says.

On the other hand, Nejad expects Viktor Hovland (21-1) to challenge for his fourth PGA Tour victory on a course where he is a great fit. The 25-year-old’s most recent victory was at Mayakoba last season, but he won the unofficial Hero World Challenge for the second straight year in December. Hovland also finished third in the Wells Fargo at Potomac last season. The Norwegian has seven worldwide victories and has finished in the top 10 five times in 12 PGA Tour outings this season. Nejad says Hovland is “on the precipice of winning a big event.” See who he is backing at SportsLine.

How to make 2023 Wells Fargo Championship golf picks

Nejad has locked in his best bets for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship and is picking his longshots, including one who comes in at around 50-1 odds. This golfer has the elite iron play that will be needed to succeed at Quail Hollow and is “not afraid to rise up on the leaderboard on Sundays.” See who it is at SportsLine.

So which players should you target or avoid for the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship? And which golfer could bring a huge payday of around 50-1? Check out the odds below, then visit SportsLine to see Sia Nejad’s top prop picks for Wells Fargo Championship 2023, all from the expert who is was up more than 70 units in a recent three-month span, and find out.
