The 2023 RBC Heritage comes right on the heels of the Masters, so some PGA Tour players could suffer a hangover while others will be riding the momentum. Jon Rahm certainly comes in on a high note after winning his second major title and reclaiming the world’s No. 1 ranking with his triumph at Augusta National. Justin Thomas, on the other hand, missed the cut last week, and many other stars had a rough go of it on Masters Sunday. Jordan Spieth is the defending RBC Heritage champion and tied for fourth in last week’s major championship. That should make him a popular option for 2023 RBC Heritage fantasy picks. The 143-player field features 40 of the world’s top 50 golfers, so players setting 2023 RBC Heritage fantasy lineups have some tough choices to make.
Scheffler (8-1) and Rahm (17-2) are the favorites in the latest 2023 RBC Heritage odds from Caesars Sportsbook, but will they be focused this week? Would a hungry young star like Collin Morikawa (18-1) or Viktor Hovland (20-1) put you in a better position to win with your 2023 RBC Heritage fantasy picks? Before setting your fantasy golf rankings or making any 2023 RBC Heritage picks, you need to see the fantasy golf projections and lineup advice from SportsLine fantasy expert Jim Holliman.
Holliman has been a writer and editor for nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players’ games fit the courses. Holliman has been on a roll since last season. He nailed last week’s Masters, backing Rahm as his top choice, despite his uninspired run at Match Play. “The Spaniard wants a green jacket badly. Who doesn’t?,” Holliman said. “But Rahm will get it at some point, and I expect it to be this year.” The Spaniard showed how much he wanted it, storming to a four-shot victory and his second major title.
At the Players Championship, he was all over Scheffler to win at 10-1, and at Bay Hill, 11 of his picks finished in the top 15 and three of his top seven posted top-five finishes. The golf expert also was behind Chris Kirk at the Honda, backing the 25-1 shot to get his first victory since 2015. Anyone who has followed Holliman’s predictions is way up on their golf picks.
Now, Holliman has ranked his top golfers from the 2023 RBC Heritage field. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings and RBC Heritage picks at SportsLine.
2023 RBC Heritage fantasy golf picks
Holliman knows Patrick Cantlay might be somewhat overlooked this week, so he is backing the 2022 RBC Heritage runner-up. The world’s fourth-ranked golfer tied for 14th at Augusta and has a strong history at Harbour Town. Cantlay has four top-10 finishes in five RBC Heritage appearances, while Scheffler is making his debut and Rahm has played here once. Cantlay’s final-round 75 cost him a great finish at the Masters, but he has finished in the top five three times since mid-February. He will be eager to avenge his playoff loss to Spieth here last year.
On the flip side, Holliman expects Rahm to let up a little but after his Masters triumph, so the expert is slightly fading the world’s No. 1 golfer. An emotional victory at Augusta, and the work it takes to get a green jacket, takes a toll. Just playing in a major is draining, which is why many elite golfers typically skipped this event. Holliman knows Rahm has all the skills needed to win here but says it “is only natural” that the Spaniard would let off the gas. The 28-year-old has played the RBC once, tying for 33rd in 2020, so Holliman doesn’t even have him in his top five. You can see who else to back this week at SportsLine.
